Created in 1885 in Bologna by herbalist Stanislao Cobianchi, Amaro Montenegro is one of Italy's most beloved and enduring herbal liqueurs, originally named Elisir Lungavita before being renamed in honour of Princess Elena of Montenegro. Crafted from a secret blend of 40 botanicals – including sweet and bitter orange peels, vanilla, coriander, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, and oregano – sourced from around the world, it undergoes a meticulous process of maceration, distillation, and blending to achieve its signature balance. At 23% ABV, this gentler amaro is sweeter and more approachable than many, making it a versatile digestif sipped neat or on ice, or a bartender favourite in cocktails like the Montenegroni or Montenegro Soda.
